With live poker dominating the headlines over the past week or so, it’s probably a good time to get everyone caught up on what is going on in the cyber-world of poker, where new promotions, tournament series, and a major shakeup at the very top of one major online poker site have been taking place in the shadows of WPT tournaments, the incomprehensible news that Theo Jorgensen was shot during a robbery, and the very sad news that the poker world has lost Lou Krieger, who succumbed to cancer last week.
FTOPS XXI underway
After relaunching in November, Full Tilt Poker is officially back in business now that the FTOPS XXI tournament series is underway. Thus far the tournament world has been very receptive to the series (and the revamped Full Tilt Poker which had been offline for over a year) with solid attendance numbers across the board.
The FTOPS XXI will see a total of $7.5 million handed out in guaranteed prize-pools over the xx tournaments during the three week series, which will culminate on December 16th, 2012 with the $600 Main Event that boasts a $1.5 million guarantee.
Lock Poker announces Happy Hours
Lock Poker may be looking to pick up some of the displaced players from the Merge Gaming Network/Black Chip Poker split that saw BCP leave Merge in favor of the Winning Poker Network. Lock’s latest promotion began last Friday when they launch a Happy Hour promotion, where players will earn double points at the designated times. Pokerstars adds a new reward level
PokerStars has once again tinkered with their VIP Program (something the site seems to do every year around this time) announcing that they will be adding a new reward’s level to the popular VIP Program.
The new “Chrome” level will be below Silver Star and can be reached with the collection of just 100 VIP Points. In addition to the new level, PokerStars has also made it easier for players to attain and maintain other levels in the program.

Jim Ryan stepping down as Party Poker CEO
On January 15, 2013 Party Poker CEO Jim Ryan will step down from his current position of co-CEO, leaving the reigns in the capable hands of Norbert Teufelberger, Ryan’s current co-CEO.
