The inaugural World Series of Poker Asia Pacific (WSOP APAC) has seen its share of highs and lows, and it appears the tournament series will end on a fairly high-note.
The WSOPC APAC Main Event drew a field of over 400 players over Day 1 and into Day 2’s late registration, and will award a first-place prize of over $1,000,000 to the winner.
While not a jaw-dropping the figure, the final tally for the Main Event should ease Caesars Management’s mind regarding the WSOP APAC experiment after some very poorly attended events leading up to the $10,000 buy-in Main Event.
Of the 405 entrants, roughly 104 will be returning to the Crown Casino on Saturday for Day 3 of the WSOP APAC Main Event. Leading the way will be Super-High-Roller regular Winifred Yu who bagged-up 432,700 chips, the only player to pass the 400k mark. In second-place on the leader-board is poker pro Rupert Elder, while Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu ended the day in 5th place with 338,100 chips.
Another poker superstar that was cruising along throughout Day 1 and Day 2 was Phil Ivey, but at the end of Day 2 the wheels came off for Ivey (who recently picked-up his 9th career WSOP bracelet), eventually busting when his AQ ran into Pocket Kings.
Other big names still in the mix include Jim Collopy, Benny Spindler, Jonathan Karamilikis, Olekssi Kovalchuk, David Gorr, Dan Shak, Jonathan Duhamel, Erik Seidel, Russell Thomas, Sam Holden, Antonio Esfandiari, Jeff Lisandro, Joe Cheong, Ben Wilinofsky, Mike Watson, Barry Greenstein, Mel Judah, and Steve Gee.
