During a high-roller-esque ceremony, the star of the 2012 British Poker Awards was the ultimate high-roller in poker, Sam Trickett. The UK poker pro has been one of the most successful players in the history of the game, and has done most of his damage over the past year or so, so it was not surprising that he would also clean-up at the BPA’s! Trickett took home an unprecedented three British Poker Awards, including the rare double of Cash-Game Player of the Year and Tournament Player of the Year, as well as the overall Player of the Year Award.
Trickett started his whirlwind 18-month run by winning the $100k Super-High-Roller event at the Aussie Millions and finishing in second place in the $250k Super-High-Roller event days later. Trickett would go on to win the Partouche Poker Tour in 2011, and since then he has basically dominated the tournament and cash-game scene in poker, including his $10 million score at the Big One for One Drop tournament and a recent $1 million score at the Macau $250k Super-High-Roller event, which marked Trickett’s fifth seven-figure score of his career.
This is the third British Poker Awards and the ceremony coincided with the English Poker Open in London. The awards’ ceremony took place aboard the HMS President yacht, with a full dinner and plenty of merry-making.
Other notable winners included Chris Moorman who won Online Player of the Year, Liv Boeree who won the Poker Personality of the Year award, Vanessa Selbst who won the International Player of the Year award, and Simon Trumper who was honored as the Best Tournament Director.
