The European Poker Tour (EPT) has announced that the EPT Season 10 Player of the Year Award will offer the biggest prize for first place out of all the other “Player of the Year” awards offered within the poker world.
This seasons winner will take home a cool €50,000, which will allow the player to enter any main event that is run by the Rational Group. The Rational Group currently runs the EPT, Latin American Poker Tour, Asian Pacific Poker Tour as well as regional events which makes stops at various locations around the world.
Edgar Stuchly, the President of the European Poker Tour had the following to say about this historic award.
It is only fitting that the world’s biggest and richest poker tour – the European Poker Tour – hosts the world’s most prestigious player award for the best player of the season. The European Poker Tour features some of the biggest poker tournaments in the world, with the best players in the world, and this prestigious award is matched by a valuable prize.
Ranking Formula by Global Poker Index
The Global Poker Index will run the ranking as players will earn points according to the GPI points formula. The formula is based on the performance of the player over the long-term instead of looking at short term results. This helps insure that the winner is the true winner over a longer period of time to help remove any variance issues.
In order for an event to qualify towards the formula the event must be Season 10 of EPT as well as any live EPT Festival tournaments with at-least 24 players and open buy-ins. The points formula will not be used for any invitational type of events or any event that restricts entry.
Some local regional tours such as the UKIPT and Estrellas Poker Tour will have some events that coincide with some EPT events and those tournaments will count with regards to points.
