Majestic Casino Poker Room Review
I live close to Chicago and one of the closest casinos – with a poker room – is the Majestic Casino at East Chicago.
Majestic has a fairly large poker room with close to 25 tables. It is on a boat (as almost all casinos in this area are) so don’t expect all the glamour and luxury that exists in Vegas (actually not even close to it).
The limit games they spread are mostly $3/$6, sometimes $5/$10, and $10/$20 on Saturdays & Wednesdays (if there are enough players).
The NLHE games they spread are mostly $100 max buy in ($1/$2 blinds) and $300 max buy in ($2/$5) blinds.
I played at the $3/$6 game mostly, and it was more than profitable. It was a great game. Easy money… So were the $5/$10 and $10/$20. But they don’t offer those games on a regular basis.
The NL games were wild, but tough. Players were playing all sort of cards and raised with them pre-flop, but played well post-flop. I lost all my winnings of the limit games at a $1000 max buy in game (not typical in Majestic).
What I didn’t like about Majestic was that there were A LOT OF regulars. The limit holdem regulars were mostly older people (perhaps killing time, enjoying their retirement) and they weren’t good, but the NL regulars were good and made steady money most of the time.
Majestic poker room management also says they’ll spread any games as long as there are enough players asking for it…
About the rake… Rake at the LHE games was 10% (typical around here) up to $5. (The maximum rake is lower when game is shorthanded). But the NLHE games were charges on a half an hour basis. The $300 max and $1000 max charged $7 every half an hour from every player (even if your chips were on the table and you were taking a break, they would have taken the $7 out of your stack)…
